The story of “Letters”
Israel Wignall, the winner of Be My Vote’s Creative Contest, is a 21 year-old student at Greenville College in Illinois and Worship Director at The Bridge Free Methodist Church in Edwardsville, Illinois.
He started writing the song “Letters” over a year and a half ago, when a friend suggested he write a song about abortion from the point of view of a baby in the womb. He says he “started getting flak about the lyrics being too controversial,” and he couldn’t quite make the song work, so he put it aside.
Then, about six months ago, as he was praying, he felt anew the Lord’s passion for life. He says, “I asked God to show me His heart for the unborn. I believe God was waiting for my heart to be in the right place, because a few days later the song just came, and I recorded it for Be My Vote.”
Israel is passionate about stopping abortion in America. He says, “If we keep raising our voices and crying to the Lord, eventually things will change.”
